Courses in this Mission

Racism can be overt and discreet, but as the most devastating act of discrimination, racism has the greatest cost on communities and economies. In this course, learn about the impact of racism and the lived experience of Torin Ellis.
What if there are obstacles to opportunity that are just too hard to overcome for someone in a low socio-economic community? You can't be what you can't see, and that's the perspective of Dr Joanna Abeyie, who shares her journey from a working class community to entrepreneur, bringing more than 5,000 working class people into careers in media, journalism and broadcasting.
Ageism is discrimination on the basis of how old (or young!) you are, and it's present in organisations every day. "Poor cultural fit", "young and dynamic company" and years of experience are all used to justify ageism, but an inclusive, multigenerational workforce is proven to be more successful. Learn from the perspective of executive search consultant Jo Weech with her personal experience of ageism.
Gender discrimination is embedded into so many cultures, from caring expectations falling to one gender, societal gender roles and gendered jobs. Learn from the perspective of Nicole White, a former public school teacher now curriculum advisor for the city of Baltimore, Maryland, in how she experienced gender discrimination at work, and how you can avoid this.
It's illegal to be anything but heterosexual in 71 jurisdictions in the world today, 11 of whom have the death penalty for being gay. In this course, you'll learn from the perspective of Joanne Lockwood, who experienced trans-discrimination when job-seeking, and what advice she has on supporting LGBTQI+ colleagues in the workplace.
Disability is diverse - some disabilities are visible, some are invisible, but every person is different. About 1 billion people (15% of the world's population) have some form of disability, yet are 6 times more likely to be unemployed or under-employed than those without a disability. Learn from the perspectives of Matt Stubs and Yasmin Shaikh, who've experienced discrimination in the workplace, both as a job seeker and as an employee.
Neurodiversity is the range in brain function and behavioural traits, particularly people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and Dyslexia. UK Research revealed just 22% of people with Autism are in employment of any kind. People with mental health issues also face discrimination in employment, as the stigma of mental health lingers. Learn from the perspective of former US HUD Deputy Secretary Claude Allen and how he faced discrimination after a period of poor mental health in his career.
Does your organisation employ people who have a criminal record, or formerly incarcerated people? So many organisations have a job application knock-out step for people who have a criminal record, yet in the majority of companies, it doesn't impact a candidate's ability to do the job. Learn from the perspective of Kyree Crawley, who served 23 years in federal prison in the United States, and his first steps back into the community and workplace.
